Catch me if you can...

I went and saw this movie over the weekend... despite having Leo in it I liked it a lot. It was a nice break from all the serious movies I've seen lately like Nemisis and Two Towers. What I thought was interesting was that James Gandolfini from The Sopranos was originaly supposed to be in the movie but was later replaced by Tom Hanks. I'm glad Tom Hanks ended up with the role, otherwise I don't think I would have liked the movie as much... On a depressing note, Jennifer Garners' part in the movie was way too small... Oh well, I have hopes that her role in Dare Devil will be better.

It's Christmas time!

Well, theres only two days left til' Christmas... and I feel sick. Not because of the holiday, but because of all the food. A coworker brought in brownies and cookies this morning... and not wanting to hurt her feelings I had to sample them several times. They were quite yummy. When I got back to my office someone had left a couple of cookies on my desk.

After those, and some other things I feel quite sick.... I don't think I'll eat any dinner tonight. ...for one thing, the thought of food right now makes me want to vomit, but also I'll be going over to my Dads house for some good stuff... Maybe I won't eat anything until then... so I can do the turkey, or ham justice.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe holidays...and that you get a lot of goodies!

LOTR: The Two Towers

Wow.... what an excellent movie... There were so many things I liked about this movie I almost don't know where to start. First off the CGI in this movie is amazing. I think Gollum was the most impressive of the lot. He was done completely in CG, just like Yoda in AOTC. There were only a couple of times were you could tell he wasn't real. There were also a lot of new creatures/monsters in this movie that were amazing. The movie was 3 hours long, but at end of if you wanted more... The last half hour of the movie is the huge battle at Helmsdeep, which itself is worth the price of admission.

8 hours and counting...

Well there's only about 8 hours to go until I'll be sitting down to watch LOTR: The Two Towers... from what I've heard so far it's supposed to be a worthy sucessor to the first one. I've also heard this one is a lot darker... which is cool... I'll try and post a review when I get home... It might not get posted until sometime Wednesday afternoon, mainly because I won't be getting to sleep tonight until about 3:30 or 4...

LOTR

A little while ago I purchased tickets for the 12:01 showing of The Two Towers on Wednesday... I know some of you will think it's crazy... plus I'm not a HUGE fan like I know some people are... still I think it's fun to go to the first show. Lets see... the movie starts at 12:01... that means I'll need to be there by about 5...

Not bad...

I got back from seeing Nemesis about an hour ago... I thought it was a pretty good movie. I had hoped that it would have been better, but my expectations for these movies are always high going in... I think I'll need to see it again. I've heard they're going to make an 11th movie regardless of how this one does. That should be interesting since Nemesis is supposed to be the last movie with TNG cast. I wonder who will be in the next one??

Star Trek Nemesis

...well I was wrong, we're going to the 4:10 showing of Nemesis!! Which means we'll probably need to leave work about 2:30 to make sure we get a good seat. I'll post a review of the flick later tonight.

Mmmm... food...

Well... I can always tell it's getting close to X-Mas when my department goes out for our annual 'Holiday Lunch'... This year we're going to Zio's... A great Italian restaurant... I can almost taste it now... Only three hours until I'm scarfing down some spaghetti and meatballs... Mmmm.....

We were also planning on going to check out the new Star Trek movie afterwards... but it doesn't look like that's going to happen... Oh well.

Tivo vs. Cable Companies

I read a disturbing article over at Slashdot about how the Cable Companies hate PVRs (Personal Video Recorders) like Tivo, Replay, etc.. If this crap catches on it could mean the death of Tivo as we know it... The part I love is where they refer to PVRs as 'the Napster of the future'... give me a break...

Tivo Freeze

Well after putting in the new 80GB hard drive this past weekend I had the Tivo freeze up on me a couple of times...but it's been about 24 hours since a freeze so I'm hopeful all will be well. If not I have a few other things I can try but I want this to work because theres some more hacking I'd like to do on my Tivo... swapping out those hard drives has given me the Tivo hacking bug... not sure if that's a good thing...

I think it worked!

I swapped out the hard drive in my Tivo last night... It ran all night and this morning and it hasn't f@#$ed up once! I think I'm in the clear. If it gets through today I'll be happy! Woohoo!

It has begun...

Well the the hard drive copying has begun... with any luck in about 2-3 hours (maybe more?) my Tivo will be good as new. I really hope that this fixes it... Have you all been keeping your fingers crossed for me?? I hope so. If this doesn't fix it I guess I'll have to go back to the Tivo Forum and do some more digging.

It's here!

The hard drive has arrived safe... although not to my apartment, but to one I haven't lived at for 6 months! I kept watching the UPS website to check on it's status. About an hour ago I saw that it had been delivered. So I left work and drove down to my old apartment... I was expecting to have to fight someone for it... When I got there I looked in the furnace closet (which is where they used to deliver stuff to me when I lived there) and there it was, sitting there waiting for me to pick it up. Or anyone else for that matter... Since when did they stop asking for a signature to deliver a package? Or least verify that the person still lives there?!?

Oh well, I can't complain too much... I did after all get the hard drive. Now all I have to do is install it and hope that fixes my Tivo. Keep your fingers crossed for me...

The end is in sight...

...I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. The new hard drive for my Tivo should be arriving sometime today. I haven't used my Tivo for the past week because of all the problems it's been giving me, plus I don't want it to go out on me completely before I have a chance to replace the drive. I can only pray to the giant Tivo god in the sky that this works.

The debacle that is my life...

I ordered a new hard drive for my Tivo. I get an email receipt from where I bought it telling me cost, billing info and shipping info. Everything looked fine... Then a couple of hours later I get an email from UPS saying that they're shipping me a package but to my old address, which I haven't lived at for 6 months!

So I call up UPS and give them the tracking number that they sent me...and according to their computers the tracking number is for someone completely different...

So I call back the company where I purchased the drive and they give me a new tracking number. I call UPS back and give them that one, which turns out to be right, but they said I can't change where it's being shipped until they already make a delivery attempt.

So hopefully the people who live at my old apartment aren't in need of a new hard drive for their Tivo or I'm screwed. I'm supposed to call UPS back Friday afternoon sometime, so I can just go and pick it up myself.

The things I do for my Tivo...

Damn Tivo...

Well I replaced one of the hard drives in my Tivo, and unfortunately it's still having problems. I replaced the original drive first instead of the 80GB. I was hoping I could get away without buying a new hard drive. Oh well I guess it will just be my X-Mas present to my Tivo.
