Star Wars on DVD

Have all of you seen the changes that are going to be on the new DVDs? I'm not too upset about them at the moment. The only ones I could see really bothering me are the Han/Greedo shootout and the Anakin Force ghost thing.

Maxtor Update

I really love those guys at Maxtor. I called them up, told them what the problem was and the dude said: "Sure we'll send you another hard drive. You should get it in 3-5 days." w00t! I really love those guys. =o)

Close one...

I was doing some surfing and email checking this afternoon when my Maxtor 200GB external firewire drive started to click at me... I tried to access the drive and got nothing. So I packed up the drive and drove it to Best Buy.(cussing up a storm along the way) I couldn't remember if I had purchased the extended warranty or not. It turns out Best Buy doesn't sell extended warranties on hard drives... but the guy told me to call Maxtor and check with them. Sure enough, it's still under warranty. Thank god! Now I just have to wait until Tuesday to give them a call.

E.T. phone home?

How cool is this?? It looks like they may have found a signal from some intelligent life out there in space. It isn't yet confirmed but they do say that it's the most promising signal that the SETI@Home project as had to date. They're going to keep watching the signal to see if it gives any other clues. I think it's only a matter of time before we get invaded. Get your tin foil hats ready! =o)

I've gotten my fifth person to sign up! Now all I need to do is wait for their status to show up as 'Offer Completed' and I can order my free iPod! I'm hoping the status will change sometime today. Wish me luck.

freeiPods.com

I saw this posted several places around the web... and apparently it works! I just signed up.... and chose the Netscape internet trial offer. It requires a credit card but if you cancel within the first month you aren't charged anything. Now all I need to do is find 5 friends to sign up... want to help out? Click on the link below!

http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=8444874

Update: Also... and this is important! If you do decide to help me out by clicking on the link please email me and let me know. I have to get credit for you signing up before you can cancel your free trial. It only takes a few days for me to get the credit. Onice I get that I'll let you know so you can cancel your AOL/Netscape trial. Thanks!

Update 2: I almost forgot... when you're going through this whole process you MUST use IE. It doesn't like Firefox, Opera or any of those other browsers. Thanks.

Damn...

Well, according to LucasFilm there won't be any additional Star Wars movies after Episode III comes out. Maybe it's for the best... if they were planning another trilogy I'd just get my hopes up only to have them smashed into oblivion. =o)

It looks like George may be making three more Star Wars films. I know the first two prequels haven't exactly been phenomenal. But maybe these three will be our 'new hope'.

It's official...

My buddy Ec|ipse and I have formed an LLC called Geeksense Solutions. We're going to try our hand at running a small computer repair business on the side. We'll also be doing stuff like home network setup, web development and basically anything else we can think of to make some extra money. I've been doing PC work for people for awhile now and have made some decent money... and that was without really trying. I figure with the two of us doing it together, plus a little advertising thrown in we may be able to do well for ourselves. So... need any computer help?

Well I haven't worked on the site since the first... In my defense I have been busy... and lazy. So you can't really blame me. I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with the black. It's a nice change I think...

I got XM Radio installed in my car this past weekend. How did I ever live without this thing?? I was just getting so tired of the local radio stations, the stupid DJs and the commercials. If you're tired of the crap you hear on the radio you should give XM a whirl. I think you'll dig it.

Holy movie Batman!

Everything I've heard about the new Batman movie so far points to it being a good one... maybe even one of the best. It has Christian Bale playing Batman and Christopher Nolan directing. Christopher Nolan is the guy who directed Memento and Insomnia. If he can make the new Batman movie as dark as those two I think we'll have a winner! Of course it doesn't have to try hard to be better then the last one.

Star Wars on DVD!

Well, it looks like it's official! Star Wars will be coming to DVD on September 21st. You'd think I'd be nothing but excited right? Wrong! According to that article the DVDs will only contain the 'enhanced' 1997 versions of the film. Which means the only way we'll ever be able to watch the original versions is on crappy VHS. What's the reasoning behind this you may ask? According to Lucasfilm VP of Marketing Jim Ward "What George did in 1997," Ward explains, "was [to] make the movie he originally wanted to make." I can respect that but still... I think that the originals should be made available for those that want them. This is the part of the article that really pisses me off.... also a quote from our good friend Mr. Ward "We realize there's a lot of debate out there," says Ward. "But this is not a democracy. We love our fans, but this is about art and filmmaking. [George] has decided that the sole version he wants available is this one." So I guess this petition was a waste of time? I briefly thought about not buying the DVDs when they come out.... show them how pissed I was...but who am I kidding? I'll still buy these the day they hit the streeets. I guess this is better then having no Star Wars on DVD at all right?

So did everyone have a good X-mas and New Years? Mine were pretty nice... although a part of me is glad all of that crap is over with.

I've recently been thinking about buying a townhome. It's not that I don't like the apartment I'm in... in fact I love my apartment. The thing is, I'm tired of paying rent. What gets me a little worried is the cost of the thing... it's not that I can't afford it... because as we all know I'm just rollin' in the green. ;o) Its that I've never purchased something that was over $100,000! I did find one the other day that I liked. I think I'll go look at it again tonight... if I can remember I'll try to post some pics of it on my moblog.

Not dead...

No... I'm not dead. I know I haven't blogged in awhile but I've either been sick, busy or just haven't felt like posting anything. I'm feeling better now and will try to blog a little more. I have seen a lot of movies lately which I haven't told you about. So here's my mini-reviews for those:

School of Rock: I know it sounds corny, but this movie simply rocks! Even if you're not a huge Jack Black fan like I am you have to see this movie. It's funny, the kids are great and it's got some kick ass music.

Mystic River: Another excellent movie. Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, and Tim Robbins all gave amazing performances. I wasn't that crazy about the ending but I'd still recommend it.

Intolerable Cruelty: I didn't really want to see this movie when I saw the previews for it, even though I'm a huge fan of the Coen Brothers. I ended up liking it more then I thought I would. It didn't hurt that Catherine Zeta-Jones was in it either.

Kill Bill Vol. 1: Ahh... you can't beat a good Quentin Tarantino film. And this is a good one. It's got action, blood, guts, Uma... whats not to like??

Matrix Revolutions: Ahh yes... the final installment of the Matrix trilogy. I'll admit that I've like each movie less and less... but it still kicks ass. I mean come on, it's the Matrix! How can you not like it?!? You have to see it to at least find out how it all ends.

Well I can Moblog again... I'm not really sure why my phone stopped sending pictures but it seems to be fixed. I did call T-Mobile again about the problem. Moblog

You might have noticed...(or you might not) that I haven't updated the Moblog in awhile. I've been having trouble sending pictures with my Nokia 3650. I was a little worried about calling the T-Mobile tech support. I've heard some horror stories about calling cell phone tech support, nothing about T-Mobile in particular but I was worried none the less. It turns out they were very helpful and nice. They gave me 50 free minutes for my trouble. I still can't send pictures... they want me to try a master reset of the phone. I would try it now but I want to back up all of my contacts and programs first. I'll try it out tonight... and with any luck I'll be back to my old Mobloggin' self.

After about a week of that I got tired of dealing with them and switched to DreamHost. I wish I had picked them to begin with! If you're in the market for a new hosting provider do yourself a favor and stay away from Jumpline.

Moving...

If you notice the site down over the next few days it isn't because the RIAA has gotten to me... it's because I'm changing hosting providers. The one I'm with now has been great. I've almost never had any trouble with them and they've always responded quickly when I have had problems. Why am I moving then? Well the main reason is because Jumpline is half the price and I get more space, bandwidth, etc. I'm going to start transferring the site over this weekend...hopefully all goes well.

Update: I'm having some trouble getting my blog to work on the new server. I have the database and all of the files moved over... it's a damn Perl module that's giving me all the trouble. Until I get it working on the new server I won't be posting here that much. Wish me luck.

Sunday

Talk about a crappy day... Every year my Dad and I go to the Good Guys car show. It's usually pretty fun. Lots of cool cars, good 'healthy' food...fun times. On the way up there yesterday I got a flat tire. Not a real big deal... we hopped out, put on the spare and got back on the road. We got a later start that day then we would have liked so a lot of the cars were already gone... plus it was raining a little bit while we were there. We got a hot dog walked around for about an hour and decided to leave. We hoped in my car and guess what.... yep it wouldn't start. I guy who had some jumper cables got it started for us and we got home okay.

Luckily it was only a dead battery, which was the cheap fix. The tire also shouldn't cost that much. I guess I just should have stayed in bed yesterday.

I was amazed at how good a condition it was in... I was expecting it to be in pieces and whatnot. You can read more about the history of it here. I can't say that it really inspired me or anything... but it was pretty cool to see it up close.

I'm supposed to leave in a little bit to go check out the Declaration of Independence. It's on tour and it's stopping by the library that I work at. It should be interesting to see something like that. I wonder if they'll let me hold it? =o)

The hour draws near...

The series finale of Buffy is on tonight... actually it's on right now! I always like to pause the program with my Tivo for about a half an hour so I can zip through the commercials. I'm getting ready to go watch it now... I'm pretty excited, but also a little sad. It's such a good show. I can't really complain too much, it did have a pretty good run. Plus since I only started watching it last year I have many seasons to catch up on. Oh and don't forget to head over and listen to Buffy Radio when the show is over. Tonight their program will be live! If you're a fan of Buffy I guarantee you'll dig the radio program. I'll post my thoughts on the show later tonight.

Tonight is the big night... at 10pm I'll be sitting down to watch The Matrix Reloaded. I can't wait! I've tried to not get too excited about this movie, in case it sucks. Then I thought fuck it... theres no way this movie isn't going to kick some major ass... I probably won't post my thoughts on the flick until tomorrow since I won't be getting home tonight until around 12:30... and I do have to work the next day.

Damn 'hackers'

Stuff like this really pisses me off... right now it's only streaming music. But you know it's only a matter of time before they figure out a way to download the songs to the local hard drive. I'm not saying that I've never downloaded anything from Kazaa, it's just that if you're going to do that then use a program like Kazaa. Don't 'hack' Apples software to do it. I was actually looking forward to the service coming to Windows... if this crap keeps up though it might not make it.

Angel Season (Series?) Finale

The season finale of Angel is on tonight. This is one of my favorite shows on right now, unfortunately it hasn't been getting the best of ratings. So this could be its series finale as well. The creator Joss Whedon hopes to take the show in a new direction starting with this episode. Hopefully that will draw in more viewers, plus with Buffy ending this season there are hopes that those viewers will start to watch Angel. If you've never seen it you should give it a shot, even if you don't like Buffy you should give it a look. It's a lot different then Buffy, and in many ways a better show.

I'll see you There

I just had my first experience with There, a virtual world that you can 'hang out' in... talk to people, fly on hoverboards, the usual geek activities. Even though the project is still beta it looks pretty impressive. They have There bucks that you can use to buy different clothes, hoverboards, or even a pet dog if you want. The only down side is that you have to purchase There bucks with real bucks. They are nice enough to start you out with $10,000. Which doesn't go as far as you might think.

If you're thinking about signing up for the beta make sure you read the system requirements first... they don't kid around on these. You need a pretty good system to run the program. If you do make it in look me up and I'll give you a ride on my hoverboard, for $20. (just kidding)

Oscar Night

Well the Oscars have come and gone once again, and even though I don't always agree with the nominations I always watch the show. I like to see who wins, who loses and the acceptance speeches are always entertaining. I was upset that Adaptation didn't get nominated for best picture. I was glad to see Road to Perdition get the Oscar for cinematography. Besides it being a good movie, visually it was just amazing.

One of the more moving moments of the night was the very touching acceptance speech given by best actor winner Adrien Brody. At the end of the speech his plea for peace brought the audience to its feet. Overall I thought it was worth watching. If for no other reason then to take your mind off of whats happening overseas, if only for a few hours.

It's Christmas time!

Well, theres only two days left til' Christmas... and I feel sick. Not because of the holiday, but because of all the food. A coworker brought in brownies and cookies this morning... and not wanting to hurt her feelings I had to sample them several times. They were quite yummy. When I got back to my office someone had left a couple of cookies on my desk.

After those, and some other things I feel quite sick.... I don't think I'll eat any dinner tonight. ...for one thing, the thought of food right now makes me want to vomit, but also I'll be going over to my Dads house for some good stuff... Maybe I won't eat anything until then... so I can do the turkey, or ham justice.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe holidays...and that you get a lot of goodies!

It's here!

The hard drive has arrived safe... although not to my apartment, but to one I haven't lived at for 6 months! I kept watching the UPS website to check on it's status. About an hour ago I saw that it had been delivered. So I left work and drove down to my old apartment... I was expecting to have to fight someone for it... When I got there I looked in the furnace closet (which is where they used to deliver stuff to me when I lived there) and there it was, sitting there waiting for me to pick it up. Or anyone else for that matter... Since when did they stop asking for a signature to deliver a package? Or least verify that the person still lives there?!?

Oh well, I can't complain too much... I did after all get the hard drive. Now all I have to do is install it and hope that fixes my Tivo. Keep your fingers crossed for me...

Posted by BlueBeetle at 03:41 PM
The end is in sight...

...I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. The new hard drive for my Tivo should be arriving sometime today. I haven't used my Tivo for the past week because of all the problems it's been giving me, plus I don't want it to go out on me completely before I have a chance to replace the drive. I can only pray to the giant Tivo god in the sky that this works.

Well it brakes my heart to say it, but I think one of the hard drives in my Tivo might be going out. Stan Lee vs. Marvel?

Damn.... I really hate to see stuff like this happen. If you're a fan of comics, like I am, then you know that this is a great time. There are a bunch of movies coming up... Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four, X-Men 2... plus a sequel to Spiderman is already in the works. I wish Marvel would pay Mr. Lee the money he deserves. Without him Marvel wouldn't have made the $400 million plus that they did with Spiderman... Hopefully they can work this out. I'd hate for this to keep movies from being released.

...anyway... I'm in a really good mood now... I think I'll have to go somewhere nice for lunch to celebrate. hmm....

blog + winamp = fun

I just added something new to the blog... if you take a look under the Links section on the right you'll see a list of the music I'm currently listening to... What makes it really cool is that it automatically updates as I step through my playlist. It took a little while to get going but I think it was worth it... a big thanks goes out to girlie for helping me get the last part working. If you'd like to know how to do it you can go here to read her instructions.

MCSE

I'm going to try and get serious about getting my MCSE certification. I've been slacking off about it for almost a year... it won't increase my pay where I work, but it would be a nice thing to have. My boss is paying for the whole thing... he's already paid for some books...now if I could just get him to pay for some classes I think I'd be set....

that was too easy

...hmm..I just upgraded to Movable Type Version 2.5... what does the new version do you might ask? I'm not really sure... I think it's supposed to make you filthy rich and make beautiful women dig ya'... at least that's what it said on the box. I have yet to be convinced.

...already?

Is the weekend over already? I guess so since I'm about half way through a Monday...I suppose it could just be a bad dream. Hmm...maybe I'll wake up from it and it will only be Saturday.

TGIF

The title says it all... I put in some extra hours this week getting the bookmobile running on their new satalite system. Plus I didn't sleep very well last night for some reason. I'm looking forward to sleeping in...and no computer problems this weekend.

...why is it weekends are so damn short??

not too bad...

Well the bookmobile experiment went off almost without a hitch. At one of the stops the program they were using shutdown on them... not unusual they said for that stop. Oh well I guess even high speed satallite has it's limits.

I think for the most part though they're happy with it. Plus it's cheaper then the stuff they were using before.

Posted by BlueBeetle at 07:38 PM
wish me luck

well I'm getting ready to go out on the bookmobile for the first 'live' test of the satallite system. I'm not too nervous about it...plus someone else from my department will probably be there as well. I'll let you know how it goes once I get back.

workin' late...

....I was helping install a satellite dish on one of our bookmobiles at work today. The purpose was to get them high speed internet access out to the remote locations that they frequent. It went a little slower then expected but we got it all working. ...and we only had to skip lunch and work late to do it. I'll be going out with them tomorrow to make sure everything is working the way it should.

Even though we had to work late it was pretty fun. We ran into a few obstacles but worked through those and got it running... it's nice when it goes like that. With any luck tomorrow will go even better.

getting closer

...well I think the site is starting to look a little better. not much but hey it's a slow process. I'm not exactly sure how this blog page will evolve but I think I'll keep at it and see where it takes me.

btw... movabletype is a wonderful thing.

almost

...it feels good to be back at work. Almost. I'm mainly glad my company has left...it's not that I didn't enjoy them coming for a visit, it's just nice when your life can go back to normal.

...which I think is why even work is alright at the moment.

finally...

well, my company left today...around 1pm. A part of me is sorry to see them go...but yet another bigger part is happy. It was just too crazy with so many people in my small apartment. Now I can get back to my normal life...as pathetic as it is.

...but hey...it's all I've got.

okay...this one...

okay, so I guess the last post was a little incorrect, I'm working today so I'll still be able to post. At least through the day. Tomorrow the "fam" and I are supposed to go to the Denver Zoo...never been there so it could be cool. I do have a problem with smelly animals though. I'll let you know how it goes.

Really I do...

I promise this page will look better....maybe not today or tomorrow but soon. I'm also redesigning my main page. I haven't decided if I want the two to look the same or different. I'm currently reading several books on CSS, PHP, and Photoshop...with the hopes of making my page look better. Only time will tell if it pays off.

movable type.... coming soon?

I think I'm starting to like this blog thing... I came across Movabletype a few months ago. About the same time I came across Grey Matter. Which I've been using for the past few months. I think I'm going to give Movabletype a whirl and see what it can do. It looks impressive on their website anyway. I might attempt to install it this afternoon.... I'll let you know how it goes.

...do you want matte or glossy prints?

The season premiere of Enterprise comes on tonight.. woohoo! It's been a long summer without all the new shows I've gotten hooked on. My Tivo has been pretty bored as well. They're also supposed to show a new trailer for Star Trek: Nemesis tonight too. Yeah I know I'm a geek.

Tomorrow night should be cool as well...I'm supposed to go see the movie 'One Hour Photo' ...it has Robin Williams playing a creepy dude who develops film at a walmart type store...who gets obsessed with a family. Should be good.

...that's it for now. Gotta get back to work....

ahh...

tomorrow is payday! yeah! too bad most of the money is already "spent" to pay bills and crap. Hmm...I wonder if I should start robbing banks. If I thought I could get away with it I might... or I could start selling some of my organs on the black market. That could get me some money... now all I need is a saw and a tub of ice...

and then there were two...

I've finally bought a router so that both my PC and notebook can share my cable internet access. I'll try and hook the notebook up tonight. I have my PC plugged into it right now, it was really easy to setup. Almost too easy...the side of the box says you can setup a VPN with it too....I'll try that out later. I'm not sure what I would use it for but it sounds cool... ;O)

more notebook fun...

I wrote zeros to my notebook's hard drive last night and reloaded Win2k...I haven't had any problems with the LCD screen since. I'm glad the screen isn't fux0red. The battery is though...a new one would cost around $250. I'm not sure I should pay that much for one...the notebook probably isn't even worth that much. I still have a lot of fun with it so I guess I'll have to think about it.... hmmm....

ahhh....

TGIPD...(Thank God it's payday) ...now that I have money again I can pay some bills, maybe even pick up something for myself...don't worry I'm not going to go crazy. I'll probably just buy a couple of DVDs or something. Or I could buy a new XP 1900 CPU...which you can get right now for under $100... hmm.....

The Echo...

I went and looked at a Toyota Echo this weekend. I went Sunday so I didn't have to talk to some weasel of a salesman. I really like the Echo....the first one I walked up to to look at was unlocked so I got to sit in it. (was it a sign? ...I think so) It's very spiffy on the inside...sits really well plus there's a bunch of storage space on the inside. I think I want to try and get one...I'm pretty sure I could afford it, the only problem is that I owe some money on my old car...more then it's worth. And more then what I think the Toyota place would give me for it... more on this later.

the saga continues...

well I think I might have found the car to buy...I've been looking online at the Toyota Echo. I've read many reviews and everyone says it's an excellent car, plus it was rated very well in Consumer Reports...PLUS it starts at just under $10,000. That's my kind of car. I still have what I owe on my car left...but it has given me hope for the future.

The only thing that I might not like is the style of the car....one the internet it looks like a nice enough car. I'll have to see it in person. Plus I want to take it for a test drive too...it's supposed to have some pep to it... I'll let you know how it goes.

no new saturn for me...

Well...as my financial situation stands right now I can't afford a new Saturn...but I think I might look into getting a used Honda...maybe I'll check those out this weekend.

Posted by BlueBeetle at 08:28 PM
hmmm... ...Saturn

I might be going to look at a new Saturn tonight.... I called Pikes Peak National Bank about a car loan and they said they would give me one for 8%...that's not too bad but it still makes my monthly payments too high. I'll go drive a Saturn tonight and see if maybe they can give me a better deal.

the car saga continues

...after looking at some of the prices of cars online, and going with what I want to spend every month I'm thinking I could afford a "new" car. I'm still going to go check out prices this weekend just to make sure they match up with what I've seen online.

in search of a new/newer car...

....the car that I currently have is a piece of crap. It's starting to fall apart on me. And since I don't want to keep paying hundreds of dollars each month to keep it running I'm going to have to look for a new car. The only question is, can I afford one? I'm going to at least go out and look at some this weekend....so after that I'll either be really excited or completely bummed out. Only time will tell...
